I See An America Where I’m Once Again Interested in Voting. Not that I’m going to mind you, but I might, and that’s a big concession since the first and last time I voted was the first year I was old enough to vote in a Presidential election and was proud to be one of the few, the proud, the ones who voted against Nixon.
Follow up:
Since then, there’s been nothing in any candidate that has been worth the trade off of increasing my odds for being called to jury duty. This year’s race is intriguing—Obama vs. McCain. I can’t think of a time when we’ve had two quality candidates running against each other and that’s encouraging. Then again, anything is an improvement over what we’ve got now. But here’s my concerns: I just don’t see the Kennedy in Obama that so many are quick to point out. How can Obama bowl a 60? And how the hell did Obama raise so much money and what has been promised for it? McCain on the other hand is too much of a political cipher for me to get greatly enthused about. I have less tendency to believe his positions are from the heart as they are from a political calculation. And while I applaud MCain’s fortitude, courage and service to his country, shouldn’t we want our next president to be the guy who evaded capture rather than endured it? I guess the next step in my political evolution (to vote or not to vote, whether we should encourage them with our votes is the question) will be to examine the candidate’s vice presidential choices and go from there.
