President Obama seems to be gaining strides and taking charge. After a virtual silence I found disappointing he has emerged in his fifth week of office to deliver the inspirational message of hope that this country so badly needs. A president, by all accounts, is limited in the amount of change he can bring...he is dependent on Congress to support his attempts at legislative reform, so it has always seemed to me that the ONE thing a President can do is motivate America through a message of hope.
Follow up:
To me, the two biggest developments concern Obama putting the special interest groups on notice that he's been hired by the people of America, not the lobbyists and that he has seemingly mastered the conciliatory approach merged seamlessly with the big stick.
For too long campaign contributions by wealthy special interest groups have created legislation that is detrimental to the majority of Americans. For too long politics has been that of hate, pitting diversity and belief against diversity and belief. Hot buttons have been pushed to cram agendas down our throats in an environment of fear and brainwashing. Politics should never be based on faith. God has no business being in government. If you need proof of this, look for the best model of government run by religion and you come up with Iran.
Political votes should never be determined or influenced by campaign contributions, and I defy anyone to say that this has not been the case for decades with a straight face. The day of reckoning draws near, let's hope President Obama has the where-with-all to persevere, the strength to hold fast, and the votes to make it happen.
